Privacy notice
AI is used for original content generation on this site. Each article shows a short summary written by a language model from the publisher's own feed, followed by a quotation of the publisher's words. The quotation is always theirs, unchanged, and the summary is always ours. Nothing about you is sent to the model or used to produce either.
Reading the feed
You do not need an account to read the feed. If you filter by category without signing in, your choices are stored only in your own browser and never sent to us.
If you sign in
You can sign in with a Microsoft account, personal or work, to keep your filter across devices and to have it emailed to you once a week if you want that. Sign-in is handled by Microsoft; we never see or store your password.
We store:
- A one-way hash of the identifier the sign-in service gives this site. It cannot be turned back into your account, name or email address.
- Nothing else, unless you ask for the weekly briefing, which is covered below.
- The categories you choose.
- Which version of this notice you acknowledged, and when.
- When your settings were created, last changed and last used.
We do not store your name, username or IP address.
The weekly briefing
If you ask for The Azure Daily Briefing, we also store:
- The email address of the account you signed in with. You cannot type a different one, and we cannot subscribe anybody who has not signed in and asked.
- A random token, which is what makes the "stop these emails" link in the briefing work without signing in. It identifies nothing else.
- Which edition you were last sent, so you are never sent the same one twice.
The briefing goes out once a week and contains the same articles the site shows for the categories you chose. It carries no tracking: no pixel or beacon placed to report that you opened it, no rewritten links, and user engagement tracking is switched off at the email service, so we do not record opens or clicks.
It does contain two Cloud Mechanix logos, which your email program loads from this website if you let it. That request reaches us like any other request for a page: our edge service records the IP address, the file requested and the time, and keeps it for 90 days under the security logs described below. We do not look at those records to work out who opened a briefing, and they are not linked to your subscription or your profile. Most email programs block images until you ask for them, and the briefing reads perfectly well without them.
Stop it at any time from the link in any briefing or from the feed when signed in. Stopping erases the address and the token immediately; the rest of your settings stay as they were.
Why we hold it: you asked us to send you the briefing. Email is delivered by Azure Communication Services, part of the same Microsoft Azure subscription as the rest of the service.
Your data is deleted automatically 365 days after you last sign in. You can see, download or delete it at any time on the Your data page.
Why we hold it: you asked us to remember your settings.
Security logs
Like most websites, our edge service records the IP address, requested page and time of every request, including from readers who never sign in. We use these logs only to protect the service, for example to block abusive traffic, and keep them for 90 days. They are not linked to your settings.
Why we hold them: our legitimate interest in keeping the service secure and available.
Where your data is processed
Settings, logs and the briefing are stored and sent from Microsoft Azure in the EU (Sweden Central). Microsoft processes them on our behalf, and Microsoft also authenticates you when you sign in. No other company is involved.
Cookies
If you sign in, a session cookie keeps you signed in. It is strictly necessary for that purpose. We use no analytics, advertising or tracking cookies.
Your rights
You can access, download, correct and delete your data yourself. For anything else, including a complaint, contact Cloud Mechanix at cloudmechanix.com. You also have the right to complain to your data protection authority.
